Time Keep Ticking

As we draw closer to the end of the first month of the new year I’m reminded how time continues to move, unchanging. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, time is time and keeps going. This makes it one of the most valuable commodities a person can have. You don’t get more and what you have spent can never be brought back. All you can do is flow with it and use it as best you deem fit. What you do with it obviously differs from person to person given who they are and what’s going on in their lives. There are times when things seem to stand still, you watch the clock and it seems to trickle by. Other times it moves too fast and you want it to slow down.
I never really gave it much thought in the past, the constant feel of the fluctuations in time, despite knowing that it was a continuous and constant flow, like that of a river. But as time has gone on I have started to take note of the fluctuations. What was I doing? Where was I? What was going on? Who was I with? Some may say what difference does it make, well I would argue it makes all the difference in the world. Times and periods where things seem to be moving slow I often find myself doing things I don’t necessarily feel I want to be doing or are things that don't feel like they fulfilling to me. On the opposite end, with the right people and doing things I enjoy or are driven to do it always feels like there isn't enough time. Now is this always the case? no, but just things I have observed over the course of life. Take what you want from that, I can't force you to do anything you don't want, but I feel it's interesting to bring up.
One other thing you will notice is that time holds patterns. Whether it be a routine, a repeat of historical event, seasons, or some other event you are tracking. Time doesn't dictate these but plays a big roll in them. Historical events for instance. If you look back at things like governments, global events, changes to systems, there are patterns and oddly enough if you track the timeline you will often find similar periods have happened between events. It's always an interesting discussion to have, and an important one. Time marches in a very predictable way but the events that take place in it can be altered by your actions or the actions of others. "history repeats itself if people ignore it."
Time also has a funny way of manipulating and changing how you view things. You could feel one way about something for years, but over time as you change, grow, and heal, it mutates, different sides come out, your perception of events change and maybe it's not exactly how you looked at or felt about something. Time itself does not alter the events, but time is what puts distance between you and what happened allowing you to look back at it. Often times you hear the phrase "living in the past." to me this is a double edged sword. We all live in the past on some level, never truly forgetting what we have lived through, but on the other hand there are those amongst us that dwell on it. Relive the events over and over in their heads with the inability to learn, heal, and forgive for the events. This is what can bog you down and slowly poison you from the rest of your life. Time can not help those that are stuck in that loop, all it does is drag on the process and continue to prevent you from looking a head.
The bottom line is that time is the most precious thing there is. Never renewing. Once its gone its gone. You are in charge of how you spend what time you have and how you want to use it. I'm reminded of an old saying "you cant change the past, the future in unknown, but today is called the present because its a gift". Keep that in mind as you move through your days, weeks, months, and years.
